Ranking All MLB City Connect Uniforms

I’ve previously attempted to rank the City Connect uniforms before, but I felt this system of doing so didn’t create a complete depiction of the City Connect program. First, it seemed largely unregulated to me without a set list of criteria in place. Second, I wanted to get a sense of how the uniforms were received by more people than just me. Thus, the journey to creating the ultimate ranking of City Connect uniforms had begun.

I actually started with the second issue. In an ideal world, I would have access to many individuals looking to submit their rankings, thoughts, and feelings. However, as someone without much of a platform to do so, I relied on a select few people from my fantasy baseball league. I purposely targeted people who might bring a different perspective to the matter, so each of us are a fan of a different team and from a different state:

Jason (myself), a New York Mets fan from New Jersey
Ryan, a Cleveland Guardians fan from Connecticut
Luke, a San Francisco Giants fan from California, now living in New York
Trent, a Kansas City Royals fan from Missouri

Now, the rankings will [hopefully] not be overly biased in any direction and should create a more cohesive picture of the City Connect landscape.

And onto the first qualm: a list of criteria. To help standardize our rankings a little, we put together six categories that each uniform would be graded on a scale of zero to five (in increments of quarters). Each category is weighted according to importance to the rating. For example, the actual look and appeal of the jersey, pants, and hat of the uniform account for over half of the weight of the overall grade. It should be noted that the ratings are based off of the most recent versions of the uniforms as some (Dodgers [1], Rockies, etc.) have been updated slightly over time.

Jersey / Pants (32.5% weighting): The general look of the jersey and pants of the uniform.
Hat (22.5%): The general look of the hat.
Socks / Accents (5%): The general look / aesthetic of the socks and other accents included in the uniform.
Connection with the City / Region (25%): How effectively the uniform connects with the city / region.
Original Logos (12.5%): The general look of the original logos included with the uniform.
Originality from Past Uniforms (2.5%): How different the uniform is from past uniforms in franchise history.

My final stipulation I’d like to note before jumping in is that while we tried to do our research and assess the uniforms from our educated standpoint, we are nowhere near experts in the cities / regions in which we aren’t from. We do not speak for anyone other than ourselves, and we especially do not speak for or pretend to understand the vantage point of people from any market.

I don’t agree with many of your rankings, but I love a good ranking system and I can’t argue with that. Great analysis! My favorite is the Angels, those should just be their every day uniforms.

  That’s about the best response I could have asked for! By nature, everyone’s perceptions and rankings will be different, but I agree that it’s hearing how the decisions were made that is the interesting part. I 100% agree about the Angels. Their current branding doesn’t provide much of anything, so I would love to see them adopt these uniforms as their primary home and create a new SoCal identity (maybe including rebranding back to the Anaheim or California Angels) to actually give them the personality they’ve been lacking for 20 or so years.
