Episode 004 — Ice Cream Helmets, Logos, and Team Name History with Paul Caputo

Joining us on this episode of The Baseball Bucket List Podcast is Paul Caputo — most well known on Twitter for his collection of 300+ mini ice cream helmets. Paul is also the “go to guy” for anything you want to know about the history of minor league team names (he literally wrote the book on it).

We cover how the Hartford Yard Goats and Albuquerque Isotopes got their names, as well as the design process behind one of the most iconic logos in the MiLB — The Portland Sea Dogs.

Paul recounts his favorite baseball memories, including throwing a first pitch, seeing a no-hitter, and a single season Phillies record being set in person.

Paul writes for SportsLogos.net, covering minor league branding news, and has written a book called The Story Behind the Nickname: The Origins of 100 Classic, Contemporary, and Wacky Minor League Baseball Team Names.
