WBC Semifinal #1: USA 14 – Cuba 2

What a game. After loading the bases with no out and pushing across a run with a walk, Wainwright worked out of it with a 5-2 groundout, K, & popup leading to a 2-run jack in the bottom of the 1st by Goldschmidt. It was a huge momentum swing that resulted in US offense taking off, scoring in each of the first 5 innings and building to a 9-2 lead. Trea Turner launched 2 HRs and the US had 4 total bombs for the game, an American WBC record. It was definitely a mostly pro-Cuba crowed, but the US bats kept them mostly at bay after the 1st. What a game to have seen. Finally got to “Fly the W” at loanDepot after our 2021 visit for Cubs-Marlins resulted in 2 Cubs losses. Hopefully the US can bring it home against Japan in the Final!
