Ballparks

Chase Field (Arizona Diamondbacks)
Loved Chase Field as a whole. The swimming pool in right field is cool. The Diamondbacks do a good job of presenting their franchise memorable moments throughout the concourse and in a team museum tucked away in right centerfield. Don't miss it! I always appreciate seeing World Series trophies, Cy Youngs, Gold Gloves, and Silver Sluggers - even for divisional rivals. I gotta say that more than any other park I have been to, it seemed like an NBA game - Dance team on the dugouts between innings, DJ music at every chance, and a scoreboard telling you to get loud because the opposing batter had 2 strikes (in the 2nd inning...really?). Otherwise, it was a great time. Got an autograph from Hawaii boy and current Diamondbacks coach, Mike Fetters! Mini-sundae helmets! More so, we got to reconnect and enjoy the game with one of my best friends and his son. Been to the BOB / Chase twice before once for lunch and once for dinner when Friday's Front Row sat above left field. For me, I count stadiums when I see a game...so glad to check off #14 current MLB ballparks, 17 MLB ballparks total.

Katy Ballpark (The Silos at Magnolia)
While not an official baseball stadium, this is a cool site that honors the history of baseball in Texas. Kudos to Chip and Jo Gaines for paying homage to this historic baseball site where several minor league teams played over the years and turning it into a fun whiffle ball park in their gorgeous Magnolia Market at the Silos. Ruth and Gehrig played at Katy Field in 1929 against the Waco Cubs and you can pose with the legendary teammates there. I doubled down the 3rd base line before heading into No. 16 for a few souvenirs and the Silos Baking Co. for a few cookies before heading up to Arlington to continue the Texasbaseballroadie. We ran into a number of people who were visiting the Silos and attending the Rangers game later that night.

Globe Life Field (Texas Rangers)
Texasbaseballroadie Day 4. I was returning to Arlington for a baseball game the first time since I last worked for the Rangers back in the 1996 - 1997. It was like coming home for a family celebration but your parents moved to a house down the road. My friend also got word the night before that we were able to get us field passes during batting practice so anticipation was doubly high for this game. It was very nostalgic and I was excited and thankful for the entire pre-game and game experience. Loved Chuck Morgan's (team's PA announcer) living room (announcer's booth), and got to see the World Series trophy, which was on display there for a few innings. The Ivan Rodriguez statue outside was awesome as he is my all-time favorite (non-Dodger) player. Bought more gear, the ice cream sundae helmet, and even the larger gold World Series Champions nachos helmet as souvenirs. Always great to see our Hawaii Big League Braddahs play and this was even beyond that as we got to meet and talk story with Kauaʻi boy, Kirby Yates, before the game, and then see him strike out the side in the top of the 9th...and to think that we were there just a few days before Kirby was selected to the AL All-Star team in his home stadium. It was great to be back in Arlington!

Dell Diamond (Round Rock Express)
Dell Diamond is a stadium that I wanted to visit since its opening. Glad it fit into my summer Texasbaseballroadie Day 3. Dell did not disappoint starting with Nolan Ryan (statue) tipping his cap as you enter the stadium. I was a big fan of the right field porch in the old Ballpark in Arlington so it made sense to sit in the nostalgic left field porch at Dell. Great kids play area. I was jealous that they had the RR Express to play on...but I got my fill of trains as multiple trains passed outside of the stadium during the game. The players pathway and stairway to and from the field is a great place to interact with players. Players and coaches, even umpires, stopped before and after the game to take pictures, sign autographs, and after the game, players and coaches handed out balls and cracked bats to the kids. It was a great day on the road. We stopped to see the Alamo in San Antonio and then took a detour to Lockhart, the BBQ Capital of Texas, and had "broke da mouth" bbq at Chisholm Trail Bar B.Q. Amazing! Then a quick stop at Darrell Royal Stadium and the UT athletic museum hall before making our way up to Round Rock.

Whataburger Field (Corpus Christi Hooks)
Texasbaseballroadie Day 2 took me to the best of the modern minor league stadiums that I have been to. I love how they honored the cotton industry throughout the park, adds great character! I could not get enough of the bridges beyond the outfield - the old bridge over right center field and the new bridge being constructed outside of the 3rd base line. Great play areas for the kids. Great energy and vibe at the stadium. Had to eat a Whataburger (patty melt, actually) at Whataburger Field. We don't have WB in Hawaii. Enjoy the Paul Bunyan like baseball statue as you enter the stadium. I want to head back to Corpus Christi just to see the completed bridge...and catch another game at Whataburger Field!

Constellation Field (Sugar Land Space Cowboys)
Texasbaseballroadie Day 1: Interesting features including alcoves along the outfield fence, the Texas-shaped scoreboard, dual team bullpens (yep, both starting pitchers warming up right next to one another), and a great kids play area in the outfield. Be sure to see the tribute to Grover William "Deacon" Jones, former MLB player, who was instrumental in bringing baseball to Sugar Land.

Beyer Field (Rockford Peaches)
Although I did not catch a game of any kind here, I am posting this for others baseball fans to see because is well-worth the hour drive from Chicago to see the field where the Rockford Peaches of the All-American Women's Professional Baseball League played. The Rockford Peaches were made famous in the movie, "A League of Their Own." The original ticket booth is still there and there are great placards to read highlighting the history of the park.

Great feel around this historical stadium. Enjoyed the statues, including the Harry Carey statue on the backside of the stadium. Friendly ushers. Fans were great - conversed with fans on both sides of us. Game ended with a Chris Morel 3 run walk-off HR and the singing of "Go Cubs Go!"

Tokyo Dome (Yomiuri Giants)
Before the game, I visited the Japan Baseball Hall of Fame in the outer stadium concourse where two players born in Hawaii, Wally Yonamine and Bozo Wakabayashi, are enshrined. It is a must see for baseball fans. I did not know how I was going to like the constant cheers from the Japanese fans but I loved it. Very well organized and very positive.

AT&T Park (San Francisco Giants)
San Francisco and the Giants did it right! Just an absolutely gorgeous ballpark. The statues are larger than life, like those baseball heroes were, and there are plaques of the team's history in and out of the stadium. The retired numbers include those from the NY Giants part of the franchise. Then there's McCovey Cove, one of the most unique ways to experience a baseball game. A must see stadium.

Coors Field (Colorado Rockies)
Saw a beautiful thunderstorm over the Rocky Mountains with lightning strikes...maybe the most beautiful non-baseball sight I have seen from a stadium. It produced a rain delay, which led me inside to the Sandlot Brewery, the first ever micro-brewery in a baseball stadium. When the rain was over, we upgraded our seats to right behind the 3rd base dugout. If you go to Coors, you must visit the National Ballpark Museum, a block or so from Coors.
2001 Blake Street, Denver, CO, USA
Date of first visit: 06/09/1997
Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum (Oakland A's)
To me, the place has amazing aura and history. I could envision Reggie and McGwire pounding HRs, Ricky and Canseco stealing bases, while Vida Blue and Dave Stewart stared down opponents from the mound...but my best vision was Hershiser being hoisted up after completing a CG series clincher in 1988. I will miss the stadium.
7000 South Coliseum Way, Oakland, CA, USA
Date of first visit: 06/09/1997
Albuquerque Sports Stadium (Albuquerque Dukes)
For a longtime Dodgers fan, my trip to Albuquerque was majestic. This is where the Dodger prospects made their names. Loved the "drive-in" outfield seats/parking lot. I loved visiting PCL stadiums of teams who were in the league when the Hawaii Islanders played in the PCL. Stadium has since been remodeled or reconstructed to the new Isotope Park.

Dodger Stadium (Los Angeles Dodgers)
My first time in an MLB stadium and it happened to be my favorite team. It was a day game and the grass was greener than Vin Scully could've ever described it. Even former Dodger Mike Marshall's GS against his old team couldn't ruin my life long dream of going to Dodger Stadium.

University of Hawaii Stadium (University of Hawaii Rainbows)
The old stadium with its metal bleachers was small and intimate. The players helped to care for the field. I got to see College HOF pitcher, Derek Tatsuno, pitch. The team's success led to the building of Rainbow stadium, now called Les Murakami Stadium after our legendary and HOF head coach.
1337 Lower Campus Road, Honolulu, HI, USA
Date of first visit: 03/29/1979
Aloha Stadium (Hawaii Islanders)
The Islanders was my professional home team growing up. They were the San Diego Padres AAA affiliate and we had the privilege of watching Tony Gwynn. Also watched future big leaguers, Sid Fernandez and Mike Fetters, play in the state baseball championships there. Of course the biggest tenants were the University of Hawaii football team and local high school football, along with the NFL Pro Bowl and numerous college bowl games. My dad took us to the grand opening of the stadium in 1975 and the stadium became a part of our family story.
99-500 Salt Lake Boulevard, Honolulu, HI, USA
Date of first visit: 09/12/1975
Civic Stadium / PGE Park (Portland Beavers)
Civic Stadium was old but had a lot of character, like the Jansen Swimsuit Lady hanging from the left field "blue monster." The park received upgrades and renamed to PGE Park, and they did it right. The Oregonian building stood across the street in left field and the Portland Athletic Club looked over right field. The MAX light rail was visible on the street outside of the outfield. Also watched Team USA, the Triple A All-Star game, Portland State University Football, and Portland Timbers. With the MLS Timbers, the stadium has lost its baseball character.
1844 Southwest Morrison Street, Portland, OR, USA
